온주, 약국에서 60~64세 대상 아스트라제네카 백신 접종 시작

 

더그 포드 온타리오 주 수상은 3월10일 앞으로 쇼퍼스 드러그마트, 렉솔, 로블로스, 코스트코 등의 약국에서 60~64세 일반인들이 아스트라제네카 백신을 맞을 수 있다고 발표했다.
이에 따라 토론토, 윈저-에식스, 킹스턴, 프론티낙, 레녹스 & 애딩턴 지역의 325개 약국에서 1957년 1월1일부터 1961년 12월31일 사이에 태어난 온타리오 주민들은 아스트라제네카 COVID-19 백신 예방접종을 맞게 된다. 일부 약국들은 이미 예약을 받고 백신접종을 시작한 것으로 알려졌다.

온타리오의 1단계 예방접종 프로그램에서는 60~64세 연령이 우선시되지 않았지만, 아스트라제네카 백신은 국가면역자문위원회의 자문을 바탕으로 해당 연령대 사람들에게 사용할 수 있도록 하고 있다. 위원회 측은 아스트라제네카 백신은 해당 연령대 외에 백신의 효능에 대한 정보가 제한되어있기 때문에 65세 이상에는 권장하지 않는다고 밝혔다.
크리스틴 엘리엇 온타리오 주 보건장관은 "주정부가 현재 받은 19만4000회분의 아스트라제네카 백신의 유호기간이 4월2일 만료될 예정”이라며 "백신의 효능기간 내에 최대한 신속하고 효율적으로 전달되도록 도울 것"이라고 말했다.
포드 수상은 "이번 주말 아스트라제네카 백신이 해밀턴, 필 지역, 심코-무스코카, 피터보로, 겔프, 토론토 등 1차 진료소들에도 전달될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
해당 지역들의 1차 진료에는 예약을 받지 않고 환자 측에 연락해 접종을 할 예정이다.
온타리오의 COVID-19 백신 유통 전담팀을 이끌고 있는 릭 힐러 박사는 이번 아스트라제네카 백신 선량이 온타리오 전역의 모든 연령층에게 백신 접종을 할 수는 없을 것이라고 말했다. 그는 "아스트라제네카의 첫 배정은 19만4천회분이며, 온타리오 전역의 60~64세 연령층은 100만 명이 되기 때문에 이 연령층에 충분한 백신은 없다"고 말했다.
온타리오는 현재 감염 위험이 가장 높은 보건의료 종사자와 80세 이상 연령층을 우선 접종 대상으로 하는 접종 프로그램 1단계에 있다.
현재까지 94만3,533명에게 백신을 투여했지만 정부는 3월에 추가로 100만 명에게 더 접종시키기를 희망한다고 말했다. 또한 4월부터 7월까지 진행될 예정인 2단계 백신 프로그램에서는 주민 900만 명에게 접종할 계획이라고 말했다.
온타리오주 정부는 다음 주 15일(월)부터 온라인 예약 포털을 개설해 접종을 늘릴 계획이다. 관계자들은 이번 달에 120개 이상의 집단 면역 클리닉이 문을 열 예정이고 필과 요크 지역을 포함한 많은 지역에서는 이미 집단 예방접종 장소를 열어 80세 이상의 사람들에게 접종을 시작했다고 밝혔다.
토론토는 3월17일에 3개의 집단 면역 클리닉을 열 계획이다.
존 토리 시장은 10일 인터뷰에서 백신접종의 약국 개방에 대해 "대단한 진전"이라고 평가했다. 그는 "공급이 늘면서  백신을 투여할 수 있는 장소도 다양하게 증가하고 있다는 것을 사람들이 알아야 한다고 생각한다"고 말했다.
